Ava DuVernay and Autumn Riley

Ava DuVernay is a Californian born in Long beach on 24 August 1972. DuVernay lived with her aunt Denise she urged DuVernay to develop her creativity and was drawn by the arts. The actress worked as a late night nurse to allow her mother the time she required in the working day to pursue her passion for theatre, literature, and art. DuVernay enjoyed the film West Side Story, which she taught her. DuVernay discovered through her example the power of art as a vehicle for activism. She enrolled at the University of California Los Angeles for a degree in English as well as African American Studies. As a student DuVernay was interested in creating for television journalism.
